Why Bailey Sullivan’s incredible art is worthy of Dolly Parton

Our Let it Snow! collection called for a very special guest artist. Who better than Bailey Sullivan, a Texas-raised illustrator based in Richmond, Virginia, whose work recently graced the cover of a Dolly Parton book? Bailey’s work makes the ordinary extraordinary through her use of bright colours, symmetry and simple shapes inspired by folk art and florals. The talented artist has leant her hand to everything from postage stamps to murals to textiles, in addition to some beautiful art prints for us.

We asked Bailey how she likes to spend the Holidays.

What’s your definition of a happy Holiday period?

Cozy time with my fam, friends and pups just enjoying slowing down a bit together. A lit tree and fireplace with some cider in hand and a classic Holiday movie make it all the better!

What’s your favourite Holiday movie?

The Santa Clause! Never gets old for me.

What are some of your main sources of creative inspiration?

Lots of folk art, decorative border details, old tapestries in museums and nature.

Do you find that your creativity changes depending on the season?

A little! I definitely subconsciously go through colour palette changes through the seasons, with a focus on warmer cozier tones during the winter Holidays.

Are we right to describe your art as floral folk pop?

I love that description!

Do you have a favourite winter food?

Baked brie with jam and good bread.
